Project Highlight​

I worked as the 1st Assistant Director on Swine, a student drama that explored themes of greed and power and required a strong visual and narrative direction. With tight time constraints, my role was critical in ensuring the production stayed on track while supporting Director, Ben Smith and Director of Photography (DOP), Nathan Goodison, bringing their creative vision to life. 

My responsibilities were to organise aspects of the production, manage logistics and kept the crew on schedule. Given the ambitious nature of the film and limited production time, my goal was to remove any logistical burdens from the Director and DOP allowing them to focus on the creative storytelling. 

During Pre-Production, I attended test shoots and worked closely with Ben and Nathan to select props at the People’s Theatre that would align with the film’s thematic vision. On set, I took charge of crew and cast management, ensuring their needs were met while keeping production running smoothly. I maintained real-time communication with Ben and Nathan, keeping them updated on our progress so they could focus entirely on their creative choices. I also enforced a detailed shooting schedule, making sure we maximised our time efficiently and captured all necessary shots. Additionally, I provided input on set design, ensuring every visual detail reinforced the film’s themes, and I took behind-the-scenes photos for marketing and archival purposes.

By handling production logistics and time management, I allowed the Director and DOP to focus entirely on creative execution, leading to a visually compelling and thematically rich final product. The film’s success was recognised with the Royal Television Society Award for Best Student Drama and an Official Selection at Dead Northern, and others validating the hard work and collaboration behind the scenes.
